About BYOP:
History
BYOP started out as a way to fill the gaps on weekends with little happening. The theory was to just drop a sound system down somewhere and have everyone bring the rest. We'd invite a bunch of DJs and groovy people on the very last minute and have them bring the rest of the party. Hence: bring your own party. Lately it's come to mean a lot of things: Bring your own poi, Be your own party, whatever. A rose by any other name....
Vibe
All parties thrown by the BYOP crew are about vibe. We've worked diligently to hand select our crowd into the brightest, happiest, grooviest people we can find. We select locations that can help us sculpt a single, comfortable vibe for each party. And we've pulled together a crew of people that will help to insure a safe, comfortable environment. You may not spot our security, but be sure that they are there to protect you (not bust you).
Music
BYOP will always try to provide solid sound. Frankly we'd rather delay a party than to have crappy sound. Similarly, we select our DJs on merit alone. We don't care if a DJ has a big name, a big e-mail list, or a strong following. We'd rather they provide you with the best possible music for the genre's selected...even if it means that you've never heard of them.
We try to introduce a new DJ to the scene, or one that been out of the scene for a while, at each party. Naturally, they will undergo our regular scrutinization, but we hope to bring a whole new stable of DJs out for your enjoyment.
Profit
Our parties are never about profit, always vibe. Whenever one of our parties show a profit, much of it goes, on a sliding scale, to the people that most make the party happen: our DJs and Crew. Should we ever have residual profit, the bulk of it will go to a previously agreed upon charitable cause. Sometimes it will be for Burning Man, sometimes for the EM:Def, sometimes for the ACLU. Whoever best serves the community interests at the time.
Location
Like sound, location is one of the things we will not compromise upon. Cornerstone will always provide you with the safest, and most comfortable locations possible. If we cannot get one that fits our needs, or cannot get permits for the location we want, we will delay an event before giving you an inferior or unsafe spot.
Drugs
At BYOP, we do not endorse or encourage the use of any drug other than Love. We gladly tolerate the use of caffeine, and make exception for the use of nicotine. As for alcohol, we discourage it's use, despite it's legality, mostly because alcohol around minors has some sticky legal implications that could endanger our hosts, ourselves and our guests. Since we'd prefer to allow the 18-21 crowd to join us, we do not permit for alcohol. As for controlled substances, anyone found to be grossly out of control on any drug, particularly in such a way that could endanger the vibe or our guests, will be asked to step out of the party until sober.
